Armani Privé Couture Spring 2015

On a runway lined with plastic-ensconced bamboo stalks, Giorgio Armani‘s homage to the Far East was certainly overt. Bamboo could be spotted throughout the collection, from the print on a silk dress to the detailing on a round toe pump. Other Eastern nods included low-slung obi belts, paired with pants, skirts, pant and skirt combinations, and evening gowns. The belts translated well in soft chiffon, heavy silk, and everything in between.

But beyond the obvious Asian influences, this collection was a true study in textures. The designer played with heavily-adorned chiffon, saturated with sparkles that provided a stark contrast to a navy silk print. A full-fledged feather dress provided a touch of movement, but was anchored with a black obi belt. Elsewhere, there was a dusty blue gown made from tiers of silk, flared skirts with precise, Origami-esque pleats, beautiful black brocade culottes, and a green shawl that looked as if it were some foreign plant species, picked directly from the rain forest. An exotic Couture trek indeed.
