Ann Taylor's Lisa Axelson On Holiday 2013 And Juggling It All

by The Daily Front Row

(NEW YORK) Hard as it may be to imagine snowy climes and holiday cheer just yet, Lisa Axelson, creative director at Ann Taylor, debuted her Holiday 2013 collection for the brand yesterday, filled with plenty of festive looks for ringing in the season in style. Touching on all the trends du jour, the collection mixed in lace, fringe, color blocking, stripes, and animal prints. A snow white coat with black lace overlay avec equally as white pants with lace jacquard was a sleekly chic look for a holiday fête, while a grey leopard jacquard coat thrown over the shoulders and worn with an ivory wool turtleneck and suede booties was a stunning statement maker for the wintry season.

What can we expect to spot Axelson donning from the collection? “I’ll probably be seen the most is a double-faced grey coat with a classic v-neck sweater. The sweater has little diamonds all over the front and it’s paired with a feathery skirt,” said Axelson. Glitzy surprises! “Also, I’m a fanatic about outerwear and jackets, so I will find any excuse to wear a coat or jacket anytime of the year.” Indeed, there were plenty of great outwear options including the aforementioned. Also noteworthy: a “wear everywhere” camel-colored coat with black piping and popped collar, as well as a graphic B&W coat, worn over a B&W stripe sweater dress for an eye-popping effect. And might we add that the kitten heeled booties will be a must-have for any city-dwelling lass seeking an alternative to sky-high stilts for running around town.

Axelson herself was wearing a cream transparent knee-length skirt with a shorter skirt beneath it, a trend seen all over the recent Resort collections. But you’ll have until next year to wait to get your hands on it.  “I’m not allowed to show it publicly yet, but I couldn’t resist, so I borrowed the sample from the rack and decided to give everybody a sneak peek.  I love this skirt. I’m obsessed with it!” So, how far ahead is she working? “I have Summer 2014 out the door this week for protoyping; by the time I come back from a much-needed vacation, I’ll be starting Fall 2014 research.” Not to mention, Axelson has two young twins on her hands. How does she do it? “Modern women…we’re really good at multi-tasking!” said Axelson. Of course, the modern working woman is what Ann Taylor has always been about. Axelson and her collection are just further proof that women can (stylishly) have it all.
