An Instagram History of Margiela

by Kristen Heinzinger

Margiela has seen its fair share of change this past year, as the once anonymous head designer was replaced with an industry icon when John Galliano took over. And his first rule of business was to overhaul the brand’s name Maison Martin Margiela, rechristening the label to simply Maison Margiela.

Nostalgia must have gotten the best of somebody: A new Instagram account, spotted by Dazed‘s Emma Hope Allwood, @ArchivesMargiela is entirely devoted to unearthing and documenting the history of the label.

Some of the iconic images include a collection of two-toed Tabi boots, clear ankle boots from the Spring/Summer 2012 ‘Womenswear’ collection used as goldfish bowls, a black leather jacket circa 2002 from the Summer Menswear collection, and a waistcoat made of playing cards from the 2006 ‘Artisinal’ collection. Naturally, the account follows only one. We’ll give you one guess.
